I told my poet friend that I played tennis with another poet today. “Is she any good?” my friend asked. “A strong backhand and powerful net game,” I replied. “No,” “her work,” “Is she any good?” “I dunno.” I said. “All I ever heard her say was, ‘SWITCH’.”
THE AWFUL TRUTH
I thought I was a novelist having written the Greatest American Novel that nobody read. It had a complex plot with many characters. It came together and had a point. It took three years to write. I can’t go through that again. Sadly, the awful truth may be that I am but a poet.
